Writing & presentations

I've gotten a chance to look over everyone's writing. You have some good ideas and strong feelings. But let's make sure we have information that is reliable. For example, do we know for certain that all ministers in the government are corrupt? We will need to talk about this important issue, since it is a serious concern to all of you, as well as many other Indonesians. We should base our writing on either our feelings or what we have good, reliable proof for. Please make sure you understand the difference.
We'll also need to practice verb forms. Several of you had some problems. Make sure you are getting good information for your presentations.

Economics Freedom in Indonesia

First of all there are some economic problem that deeply effect the humanity in Indonesia. Indonesia is a good country that have a lot of materials , resources, and nature. But we know that people / goverment in Indonesia can't controlled it well. it seems Indonesia have a lot of poverty in every area / space.Poverty is a scourge which leaves those in its grip to lead lives that are brutish, dangerous, and short. Economic growth is a poverty elixir. From the works of the earliest political economists : Adam Smith, Jacques Turgot, etc. We have learned that economic liberty is a crucial precondition for sustained economic growth. and in consequence ratchet up its economic growth rate, governments must make credible commitments to implement liberal economic reform programs. A commitment is made more credible the more one binds oneself to the achievement of an objective. At the extreme, on a battlefield when a commander orders his troops to burn all bridges behind them to cut off avenues for their retreat, his enemies will be confident that his intentions are to fight to the last man. In fact Indonesia is another country that has made a credible commitment to liberal economic reforms. Indonesia where I witnessed the birth of such a preeminent commitment —merits attention because it has the highest economic freedom ranking of any former communist country. It ranks twelfth on both of the standard measures for economic freedom. Finally, Indonesia's goverment must know more about the standart economic itself. It will probably take action of Indonesia infrastructure. ^

Increasing of fuel price affect Jakarta

Nowadays, people in Indonesia are worried because fuel price is increasing, automatically the price of people's daily needs are increasing too. There is no other way, instead of increasing fuel price, to cover the production of petrol. We all know that Indonesia is a rich country with a lot of natural resources, but we can not maximize our natural resources because we do not have a good human resources here. So we can not avoid that fuel price in Indonesia will increase rapidly, as the impact of this, there are some riots in Jakarta, capital city of Indonesia. And the riots increase the traffic jam in Jakarta. When government increase the fuel price again, I am sure that there will be a chaos in Jakarta.

handous chapter 2

I have not learn about this topics before, but the paragraphs inside this chapter are very interesting for me, especially about the meaning of colors. This chapter is about unity and coherence, unity and coherence are important when we are going to write a paragraph. First of all, unity means we only discuss one main topic from the beginning of the paragraph until the end of it. For example, when we are going to discuss about the negative impact of television, we do not have to discuss the positive impact. Even if we want to write about the positive impact, we have to put it in a new paragraph. Secondly is coherence, which means that we have to organized our sentences and make a good and understanding paragraph, it means that we have structured the sentence and put them orderly. Repeating key words, using consistent pronouns, using transition to link sentences, and arrange ideas into logical order are the way to make a coherence paragraph. Finally, unity and coherence can help people to make a good and understandable paragraph.

Handout Chp. 2

From the handout chapter 2, I think I had never learned this topic before, which is unity and coherence. After I reviewed about the definitions and examples from the topic above, I really think that it is the most important thing to support paragraph structure to look even better. First, unity helps us to consider that the paragraph use only one main idea or more. Example, if you want to discuss about the advantage to a product, 'do not' discuss about the disadvantage. But if you want to discuss another advantage, put it on a new paragraph. Second, coherence is the movement from the sentence to the other sentences that must be logical and smooth. This element could be achieve in four ways, such as repeat key nouns, use consistent pronouns, use transition, and arrange ideas in logical order. Finally, these 2 elements could support us to make an excellent paragraph; I hope it could help me to achieve a good grade in Academic English lesson.

On Tuesday, 24 June 2008, the university protesters made violence at the Sudirman Street in front of the Atmajaya University, they stopped one of the government's cars, and then they destroyed it by set it on fire. Handout Chp. 1

On Wednesday, 25 June 2008, which is the first day of compact semester, Mr. Charles Schuster gave our class the first handout of chapter 1 for the Academic English lesson. After I read all the material in this handout, I felt that I had learned all the things in this chapter. Then, I suddenly remember that I learned this material from the Pre Academic English Class when I'm in Semester 1 at Binus International. Back in semester 1, I learned all about the paragraph structure, especially how to make good topic sentences, supporting sentences, and concluding sentences. Its kind a fun to write a paragraph, but sometimes I felt that it is pretty hard. Finally, in this compact semester, I'll try to improve my ability in writing paragraph structure.
